Transferable skills, also known as “portable skills,” are qualities which can be transferred from one job to another. While we have likely possessed many transferable skills, we can work on strengthening them and developing new ones that employers value across industries and jobs.
3 transferable skills that I have are –
1. Communication skills: I have very good communication skills in the workplace. I have experience working with diverse people from around the world. I started improving my communication skills while working as a team member in Mcdonald’s during my college time. It has improved significantly since I started my professional career and I am utilising this skill wherever necessary. This skill of adequate communication in various contexts is essential for lifelong development as it enables me to reach my full potential and achieve a sense of empowerment and individual effectiveness.
2. Managing and organising skills: Managing and organising are one of the key skills I have utilised in all my workplaces. I have gained this skill while working as a business operations manager and responsible for effective operations management. This skill helps me to identify opportunities, and potentiality and organise as required. It also helps me to improve my self-management skill. Self-management is a cognitive process that regulates intense emotions. Impulsivity, risky behaviour, and a volatile temper are behaviours that can be addressed through the development of this skill. My organisational skills establish a sense of trust and professionalism in the workplace.
3. Problem-solving skills: Problem-solving isn’t just about responding to (and fixing) the problem that exists. It is also about innovating, creating new things, and changing the process/system to be more desirable. Demonstrating strong problem-solving skills is the secret to my success when completing any project in my workplace. I have developed this skill while dealing with different stakeholders and identifying their requirements in my current job. I do analyse the problems and suggestions for suitable changes and process improvement. This skill helps me to be more confident and passionate about my own work. No matter the sector, industry, or job function, challenges and problems that WE need to solve will occur regularly, and will often be the measure of your success in the role.
Transferrable skills are always helpful and desirable in professional practice. I believe these 3 transferrable skills help me to be more confident, be successful in my projects and perform well in the workplace.
